ORCHARD PARK, NY (WKBW) — SUNY Erie Community College’s two-year Seaco automotive program is expanding as West Herr Automotive Group waits for more students to graduate and transition into full-time jobs.

A sophomore and hardworking Seaco student says it has always been his dream to be part of the automotive industry, and this program helps him seize several opportunities.

“It’s different from lecturing obviously, because being able to do it on the job, you’ll learn it much faster,” says Samuel Lotempio. “By doing it with your hands, you’ll get muscle memory that you don’t get in a lecture.”

The program guarantees students a job after two years.

“I think it’s great because it’s way better than any internship,” says Lotempio. “In an internship, you might get that job, but with that, you already have that job and you’re lined up. You don’t have to worry when you graduate.”

West Herr vice president of fixed operations Jay Galligan told 7 News he was confident the program would grow and students would learn success from being hands-on in the business.

“Adding 36 more technicians to our team, we have 12 to 15 more starting in the fall. So it’s a nice repeatable program that allows us to have long-term success,” says Galligan.

Galligan looks forward to transitioning students into full-time employment with West Herr Automotive Group.

He says the full-time job would also have access to health benefits, and of course the pay rate will be higher than expected.

“The average technician earns just over $56,000 a year. The average clinical technician earns over $62,000 a year,” he says. “When you’re dating, you make an average of $40,000 to $45,000 a year.”

Program instructor Vincent Laverdi says West Herr being the center of student learning and growth can be an investment in students’ futures.

“The good thing about the co-op initiative that they’re already working at the dealership, so it’s not like they have to pile up after the program,” Laverdi says. “Because they have been working for two years that they have been with us.”

Other students say that this program has advantages that prospective students should use to their advantage.

“Seeing things at the dealership and then coming here and learning what we just touched at the dealership really helps the learning process,” says Seaco student and worker James Brown.

KISSIMMEE, Fla., March 08, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — ECD Automotive Design (ECD) today introduces its latest breakthrough innovation in its custom luxury car design process. Positioning itself at the forefront of virtual trends within the automotive industry, ECD now creates a photorealistic design video of each customer’s unique custom build, allowing them to view their dream car months before its completion. Created with Epic Games’ 3D creation tool Unreal Engine, the realistic animation with dynamic physics and lighting effects looks like something out of a movie or video game. Click HERE to see a 3D design video of a custom Defender build.

ECD is the world’s largest Land Rover restoration company, specializing in customizing 25-year-old vintage Defenders and classic Range Rovers into modernized luxury vehicles that celebrate each customer’s creativity and style while maintaining rugged charm. beloved of traditional Land Rovers. Each ECD vehicle is an individually designed work of art, rebuilt in-house from the frame and top up and customized down to the seams of the seat so that no two on the road are ever the same.

ECD offers an endless array of custom features to choose from for its customer base. After choosing from ECD’s range of classic Land Rover models – whether it’s a Defender 90, Defender 110, Defender 130, Series IIA or Range Rover Classic – customers make further customizations, from styling from bodywork to paintwork, tire and wheel specs and much more, as well as a long list of accessory options such as grilles, roll bars and winches to name a few. only a few. Most notably, customers can choose from nine different drivetrain solutions, including a 450 HP Tesla electric motor. For the interior, customers also select seat configuration and styling, audio and infotainment systems, and have a wide choice of leather colors and stitching to create something truly individual.

Once customers have finalized their custom design, a 3D model of the car is digitally rendered with a variety of programs and powered by Unreal Engine. A design video is then created with the model, teasing the build to come. The cinematic video includes exterior pans, interior shots and graphic callouts that highlight key features of the custom build. High-fidelity textures, precise lighting and dynamic shadows make it look both stunning and immersive. As one of the most popular software frameworks in the gaming industry, Unreal Engine has been used for well-known titles such as Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition and fortnite. Unreal Engine is also widely used in film and television with the Oscar Ford versus Ferrari and Disney The Mandalorian all implementing it as a CGI tool.

“It’s incredibly powerful software that puts ECD at the forefront of automotive design and ahead of the curve compared to other boutique car manufacturers,” said Tyler Godby, 3D Artist and Developer for ECD. “With Unreal Engine, visual fidelity has increased exponentially. Everything from the way the light shines to the reflections in the glass helps make videos look realistic and not out of an old video game.

Godby has been doing 3D modeling and design both as a hobby and professionally for over 20 years. Since joining ECD, he has led enhancements to ECD’s proprietary 3D rendering software and deployed the Unreal Engine implementation for design videos. Godby uses a custom-built PC with an Intel processor and an Nvidia 3070 card — typical gear for game developers — for his design videos.

Coming soon, more detailed and realistic weather environments and effects will only enhance the individual ECD experience. For example, if a customer is based in Colorado, the design video will showcase their restored Defender with a photorealistic mountain backdrop. Blowing snow will accumulate on the hood of their vehicle, simulating the appearance of the vehicle in everyday life. The 3D model can even be incorporated into a photo background, seamlessly inserted into an image of the customer’s driveway next to current vehicles.

“The possibilities are truly endless with this technology, and it will only improve the service we provide to our customers,” said ECD co-founder Scott Wallace. “We plan to use the engine to create an interactive online configurator that customers can play with. They can zoom in and out and make updates to their build in real time, adjusting paint color, seat leather type and more with just a few clicks.

Additionally, ECD hopes to use Unreal Engine to create a virtual reality (VR) experience for its customer base. With a VR headset and controllers, customers can experience the interior of their custom build and, just like the online configurator, instantly change different parts, such as seats, finishes and furniture. Mario Tama/Getty ImagesNews

Fisker (NYSE: FSR) the stock has lost a third of its value since the start of the year, carried away by a wider sale of shares of electric vehicle manufacturers. But with the launch of its first vehicle fast approaching, is it time to buy?

Ready to launch

Shares of the Manhattan Beach, Calif.-based automaker have fallen 33% year-to-date. By comparison, shares of industry leader Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) fell by 28% during this period. Meanwhile, other competitors have seen even bigger drops. Lucid (NASDAQ:LCID) decreased by 37%, Nio (NYSE: NIO) fell 35%, and Rivian (NASDAQ: RIVN) dropped 45%

At the same time, the S&P 500 index has fallen 11% since the start of the year. Fisker shares recently changed hands at $10.50 late Thursday morning.

The sale of FSR happened before two major catalysts loomed on the horizon.

The first is the delivery of its first vehicle, the highly anticipated Fisker Ocean. The SUV, which will have a starting price of $37,499, is the brainchild of renowned automotive designer Henrik Fisker, who is also chairman and CEO of Fisker. Deliveries are expected to begin in November 2022.

The second is the rollout of its second model, a more economical electric vehicle called PEAR. PEAR deliveries are expected to begin in late 2024, with production starting at 250K per year. The vehicle is expected to have a list price of just under $30,000, significantly lower than most other EVs on the market.

It should be noted that Fisker is currently operating in the red, reporting a net loss of $471 million in 2021 on revenue of $106,000. The company released its year-end earnings report on February 16.

Is FSR a buy?

Analysts at Cowen, who rate Fisker as an outperformer with a price target of $28, said in a note last week that they expect PEAR production to hit 1 million per year after 2025. They added that the company is taking bookings for PEAR earlier than expected and that Ocean has generated considerable interest among buyers from commercial fleets such as car rental companies.

Cowen analysts also said they were impressed with Fisker’s recently announced warranty program, which warrants the powertrain for six years and 60,000 miles and the battery for 10 years and 100,000 miles. “We view this as an ambitious warranty plan that highlights management’s confidence in the design and durability of the product,” the analysts wrote in their note.

Credit Suisse analysts were more optimistic.

“Following a sharp decline in growth-oriented stocks, we believe FSR has oversold and see an attractive entry point as our broader thesis on FSR remains intact,” Credit Suisse analysts wrote in their statement. note last week. “We believe the start of production of Ocean in November is a key catalyst and could be enough to drive the stock up significantly.”

Credit Suisse analysts maintained their outperform rating on the stock but lowered their price target to $25 from $32.

Analysts at Raymond James, meanwhile, ranked FSR as a market performer, citing uncertainty over which Ocean model customers will prefer, given the wide price and gross margin range between models. They noted that the base Ocean Sport model should be priced at $37,499, with the midrange Ocean Ultra at $49,999 and the Ocean Extreme at $68,999. Models also vary greatly in drive range.

“To put it simply, if everyone wants Sport, the Ocean will probably never be profitable. On the other hand, if everyone is willing to splurge on Extreme, the company will have one of the best margin profiles in the automotive industry,” Raymond James analysts said in a note last week. . “Reality, of course, will be somewhere in the middle.”

Analysts rate Fisker a buy, on average. Of the 12 analysts tracked by SA over the past 90 days, four rated the stock a strong buy, three a buy, four a hold and one a sell. SA contributors also rated the stock as a buy, on average.

Meanwhile, Fisker’s SA Quant rating is a sell. While the company scored an A for growth, it received a D+ for momentum and D- for valuation and profitability.

car manufacturers are express extreme dissatisfaction with dealers charging customers far more than manufacturers’ suggested retail prices. According to Edmunds, more than 80% of car buyers in the United States paid a price above MSRP last month, which is exceptionally higher at around 3% in January 2021. So far, Ford and General Motors have expressed the most public opposition, with each automaker issuing warnings to dealers about the practices and threatening to reallocate new inventory to other dealerships. Despite the ongoing controversy, automakers remain committed to finding ways to work with dealerships to facilitate sales of new electric and hybrid vehicles as well as manage the shift to the direct-to-consumer model.

General Motors said Monday that it would be increase your climate equity fund to $50 million, double its initial investment. GM executive Kristen Siemen said the increased investment will increase inclusion and involve the community more in efforts to eliminate emissions. The automaker is also continuing to support various nonprofits to further facilitate its goals of creating “clean energy jobs,” “sustainable transportation,” and “community climate action.” GM also has a separate $35 billion fund earmarked for research and development of electric vehicles and charging solutions.

According to a recent Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Tesla CEO Elon Musk donated over five million Tesla shares to charity in November. Although the name of the charity was not disclosed, it was worth more than $5.7 billion and the shares were donated at the same time as Musk said he would sell for more than $16 billion. shares after Twitter users said so. Musk has continually come under scrutiny when it comes to his taxes, and analysts say the recent donation could give him tax advantages, as donations are potentially subject to lower taxes. The recent donation is not his first, as he has continuously donated billions of dollars in grants to various causes.

According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Sonic Automotive made some changes to its board of directors and increased compensation for four executives, and setting new standards for their bonuses. At the 2022 annual meeting of shareholders, Victor Dolan and Robert Heller announced they would not be seeking re-election, while Speedway Motorsports executive Michael Hodge was named a new member of the board. The SEC filing also indicates that its executive chairman, CEO, chief financial officer and chairman will receive 20% salary increases and that their bonuses going forward will depend on adjusted earnings per share and overall customer satisfaction. . Sonic Automotive is set to release its results today.

Celebrating Black History Month:

This February, in honor of Black History Month, we want to celebrate and recognize the past, present and future accomplishments of Black automotive retail professionals. Today we would like to highlight Edward Welburn, former vice president of global design for GM.

After being amazed by a Cadillac he saw at the Philadelphia Auto Show when he was 11, Welburn wrote to General Motors asking him to become a car designer. Opportunity: monetize vehicle data

With the increase in the number of connected and autonomous cars in the world, the data generated by the vehicles is enormous. The industry that is expected to be born as a result of sharing this data with third-party companies is expected to be around $750 billion. This clearly indicates the enormous power and potential that this data possesses. This data is very valuable for businesses such as car insurance, fleet management, repair and maintenance shops, city planners and various retailers. However, not all of this data is necessarily very useful. Therefore, it is important for OEMs to understand how to sort valuable information from the rest. With this in mind, Delphi acquired

Control-Tec, as well as invested in an Israeli startup named Otonomo, to create a connected car marketplace that can sell data collected by any OEM to users of that data. Control-Tec is a developer of data acquisition systems that analyze large amounts of data and transfer the most relevant information to the cloud; while Otonomo anonymizes this data and prepares it for OEMs to sell to commercial buyers, thereby acting as a data broker. Otonomo already collaborates with ten major OEMs including Daimler and 75 third-party customers. Such initiatives by suppliers should significantly help OEMs create new revenue streams by utilizing the massive amount of data collected from their wide range of vehicle models via automotive data loggers.

In 2020, the automotive market all but collapsed as a result of the COVID pandemic. The demand for vehicles disappeared due to the uncertainties of the times and the strict mobility lockdown. Another factor, however, that had a significant impact on the auto market was the crackdown by banks and finance companies on consumer lending, especially on durable goods like motor vehicles. Virtually overnight, the taps on new car financing dried up as banks – rightly so – rushed to mitigate the risk of default.

In fact, it was commonly believed that there could be no recovery in vehicle sales without a return of auto loans. Before COVID, the majority of auto purchases were done through financing. This is why an easing of credit was seen as essential to a resurgence of the auto market.

As if to underscore the importance of vehicle consumer financing, Toyota was able to survive and outperform other auto brands during the height of the pandemic due to the active support of its captive finance company, Toyota Financial Services Philippines (TFSPH). Fortunately, Toyota already had a strong value chain in place to support its auto sales through good times and bad. Amid the shutdown in economic activity and the withdrawal of banks from consumer lending, TFSPH has kept its doors open, continuing to provide loans to buyers of Toyota vehicles. This was a distinct and significant advancement for Toyota over other automakers.

After nearly two years of battling the pandemic, the economy is finally reopening and consumer demand is returning. Auto sales in 2021 were less than 70% of 2019 pre-COVID levels. Banks are starting to show signs of willingness to take out consumer loans, including for motor vehicles. This will certainly allow the expected increase in consumer confidence and the rise in demand for automobiles.

TFSP is gearing up for what Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) sees as sales returning to 2019 levels. TMP started the year with the introduction of a new mainstream model – the Toyota Raize. This model competes in the entry-level SUV segment which relies heavily on auto financing. TMP also recently announced that other new models are in the works. As such, TFSPH is preparing to respond to this expected increase in loan applicants.

To better serve auto loan growth, TFSPH is looking beyond its traditional direct financing loans. During the COVID-induced lull in auto sales, TFSPH has taken the opportunity to innovate and introduce new product packages aimed at making motor vehicle purchases more manageable for buyers. In particular, TFSPH has set itself the goal of intensifying its rental service offerings.

Last year, TFSPH launched its KINTO One car leasing service. It’s a full-service lease agreement that takes much of the pain out of buying and owning a car. TFSPH has made the application process so easy for interested buyers.

Applying for a lease is hassle-free since KINTO One has gotten rid of the usual guarantor or co-maker required by regular financing plans. With KINTO One, all you need is a valid driver’s license, major credit card, proof of income, and proof of billing.

One of the many concerns of a typical car buyer is the upfront payment. With KINTO One, the initial withdrawal is only the security deposit which is equivalent to the two months rental. This security deposit will be returned at the end of the plan, if the mileage and vehicle condition requirements under the rental terms are met and there are no other violations. Buyers can visit the TFSPH website to choose the car they want and even the lease term and mileage limits. You can submit your application, check the status of your application, make payment and track the release of your vehicle, all online.

KINTO One’s monthly rental rates already include regular car ownership expenses such as registration, insurance and periodic maintenance. KINTO One even makes things easier by managing the scheduling of service appointments at your favorite Toyota dealership and also renewing your registration. TFSPH created the Kinto Concierge Service to provide these additional conveniences to shoppers.

But the best part of KINTO One is that when the lease term ends, the car owner can simply take the vehicle back to the Toyota dealership, apply for a new lease, and hit the road again with a brand new Toyota car.

I have always wondered why leasing has not gained popularity in the Philippines despite its obvious advantages. In the United States or Australia, virtually all vehicle sales are done through leasing. Maybe renting will be part of our new normal.

Automotive financing is crucial for the recovery of the automotive industry. I believe, however, that leasing will lead to sustainable growth.

As we look to the future this year, automotive designers and OEMs will be looking at different ways to speed up the development and manufacturing process to shorten the overall release cycle so that more time can be spent on design of highly personalized solutions.

Here are five predictions of what’s to come for the auto industry in 2022:

More edge computing power

As we advance in the capabilities of autonomous vehicles, more computing power is needed at the edge. This computing power is needed to support the wide range and volume of sensors and devices needed to perform specific aspects of autonomous driving and adapt to driver conveniences.

By delivering computing power to the edge, overall processing is accelerated and overall data throughput on the vehicle network is reduced.

However, even more computing power will move to the central core of the vehicle as the next generation of consolidated computing platforms become more widespread. The next generation, which will likely be introduced at the end of this year, will consolidate ancillary services and system-on-chips (SoCs) that are typically spread throughout the vehicle.

Within this central compute core, we’re going to see fewer and more powerful SoCs each containing multiple compute cores as well as specialized cores for virtualization. The virtualization function within the SoC will provide services to the vehicle that would normally have been offered through a dedicated microcontroller or dedicated electronic control unit (ECU).

Automotive cybersecurity will become more integrated into automotive organizations

This year, car manufacturers will ask many important questions regarding the implementation of car safety standards, in particular ISO/SAE 21434which includes security management, project-dependent cybersecurity management, ongoing cybersecurity activities, associated risk assessment methods, and cybersecurity in the development and post-development phases of road vehicles.

In 2022, organizations must prioritize cybersecurity and integrate these activities into their established programs.

Digital twins will become more prevalent in automotive design and testing

The need for digital twin technologies in the automotive industry will only increase in 2022 as custom processors and more software are managed and delivered through the automotive software pipeline. System architects have to answer many questions about brand-new ECUs, such as: how do they work, what is the packaging, and when can software start testing on them? The hardware required to start software testing can take months or even years to be ready. When a digital twin is available, this time is reduced considerably. As designers develop the next iteration of hardware design, they can model it in a digital version and quickly make it available to software developers.

The era of electric vehicles begins in earnest

It is very likely that 2022 will be the tipping point where we start to see batteries-electric vehicles (EVB) become mainstream.

OEMs will showcase models that cover a wide range of needs, from entry-level BEVs to high-end BEVs that have full cruising capabilities, extended range, traditional driving aids, smart capabilities around autonomous drivinghighway driving assistancehigh automation of driving, etc.

Manufacturers are beginning to determine what consumers really want in their vehicles while solving technical challenges, such as material availability and manufacturing cost.

People may start moving away from personal vehicles

Will group or fleet owned vehicles become more of the norm over individually owned vehicles, especially in high density metropolitan areas? Consumers who purchase this model have access to a vehicle they can program or call on demand and receive in 30 minutes or less.

We have already seen many organizations and startups offering this type of solution, but there is a lot of room to grow and understand what consumers are looking for in this market segment. The outcome will depend on many factors, including how consumers perceive the potential transmissibility of COVID-19 (or another pathogen) in a shared vehicle over the next 12 months.

Ultimately, automakers will bring innovation and creative problem solving to the table in 2022 to meet the challenges caused by supply chain disruption, the economic effects of COVID-19, changing consumer preferences, new cybersecurity standards and the need to develop sustainable options.
