MARLBORO, Vt. (WCAX) – Another suspected arson in Windham County on Friday, this time damaged a building in Marlboro.

Firefighters responded to the blaze around 8 p.m. Friday near Town Hill Road and Vermont Route 9.

Police said the one-story wooden building was unoccupied and no injuries were reported.

First responders were able to save the structure, but it suffered damage from fire, heat, smoke and water.

Police say the cause is under investigation, but believe someone is behind.

The Arson Tip Award program offers up to $ 5,000 for information leading to an arrest.

The incident comes as police continue to investigate several fires in the area that have been started over the course of a few weeks.

Last Saturday, a Putney auto shop suffered extensive damage following a suspicious fire. The previous Saturday a house had been destroyed on Shag Bark Road in Putney, also in possible arson.

This weekend, Windham County Sheriff’s Deputies drive the night through Putney and Westminster with non-flashing blue lights to help deter criminal activity.

Police say they can’t yet tell if the fires are connected.
