Local businesses flock to help Rome rescue mission feed hunger

When workers and officials at local company Rizio & Calandra Plumbing / Excavating Inc. found that the Rome Rescue Mission was short of 1,000 turkeys to help feed those in need on Thanksgiving, they – and a crowd other small businesses – worked together, raising the fund to buy 400 turkeys.

In 2020, Rizio & Calandra staff also jumped into action over the holidays, seeing increased needs in the region due to the challenges of the pandemic.

“In 2021, we saw that the need was still there, and will always be there. So for the second year, through our Facebook Business page, https://m.facebook.com/romeplumber/, we published a message calling on small businesses / individuals in our community to match our donation ”,
the company said in a statement. “One by one, small businesses and individuals are starting to get involved and say they want to come in; and before we know it, we beat our number of 330 turkeys last year, getting a total of 400 turkeys this year, ”the ad read, adding“ We are proud of this community ”.
