Car and city: new vehicle registrations in Shanghai insurance in September 2021
Shanghai (Gasgou) – In September, insurance registrations of locally made passenger vehicles in Shanghai, one of the most developed cities in China, reached 61,004 units, a jump of 24% from the previous month, according to the China Commission. Banking and Insurance Regulatory Authority (CBIRC).
Among the top 10 auto brands by September volume of Chinese-made PV registered in Shanghai, Roewe, BYD and NIO were the only three owned only by Chinese automakers. Notably, NIO was the only one from the Chinese startup NEV. The most popular brand was Tesla, overtaking the second Volkswagen by 327 vehicles.
Among the top 10 car brands, Nissan was the only one to offer only fuel oil models for sale. Tesla and NIO ranked in the top 10 for purely electric vehicle brands. The other seven all had NEV models for sale. It should be noted that NEVs accounted for up to 96.5% of BYD registrations in September in Shanghai.
On the list of the 10 best models by insurance volume for September in Shanghai, the champion and the runner-up belonged to Tesla. With 5,190 vehicles registered, the Model Y held a solid lead over the other models. In addition, the VW ID.4 X placed 4th with only fully electric vehicles sold as well.
In September, 26,468 locally-built new energy passenger vehicles (NEPVs) were registered in Shanghai, an increase of 86.8% month-over-month. September registrations included 19,740 BEV and 6,055 PHEV (including 673 REEV).
In total, six NEV models registered more than 1,000 registration units in September in Shanghai. The top 3 only had all-electric versions for sale. Four BYD models, namely the Qin PLUS, Han, Song PLUS, and Tang, were on the NEV Top 10 list.
